Curiosity of students in learning GSP

Computer as a tool in mathematics. A mathematical software tool is somewhat like a physical manipulative; by itself, it does not teach. However, the user of a well-designed tool software package has an electronic 'thinker toy' with which to explore mathematical ideals.

Placing students in groups of three or four to work on a problem is an extremely useful strategy for encouraging the discourse and interaction envisioned in a mathematical community.

Groups should usually be heterogeneous in ability so that all students are exposed to good thinking and reasoning.

In a mathematical environment, students feel confortable trying out ideas and taking risks. The students were curiosity, why my ' transformation sketch' was not robustly constructed?

Alamak!! All the robust image was destroyed.

Don'y worry! the robust sketch will recover back.

Sketchpad makes it easy to construct figures using transformations. Students started early using Sketchpad's transformation capabilities so they can take advantage of these capabilities in their construction.

Instructional activities using Geometer's Sketchpad

The Geometer's Sketchpad enable students to investigate and encourage a process of discovery in which students first visualize and then make conjecture before attempting a proof.

Geometer's Sketchpad is a dynamic software that enables students to investigate, explore, and understand mathematics in ways that are simply not possible with traditional geometry kits or with other mathematics software programs.

How to construct a square?

The instructional activities help to improve student's abilities in using technology in communication and problem solving.

How to construct parallel line?

Student presentation - Pythagorean Theorem

Is the Area 3 = Area 1 + Area 2? How accuracy if teacher used compass and protractor? Or if students learn the theorem by memorizing rather than exploring and discovering the true.

With technology capabilities, students can visualize mathematical concepts which are difficult to comprehend without teachnology.

Visual Demonstration of the Pythagorean Theorem

Geometer's Sketchpad has the ability to enrich the content of students' learning experience, provide greater flexibility, and give students a more self-reliant role in their own education.

Student presentation - Polygon to a circle

Explore more suggestions can be very challenging. Students who finish an activity early can get started on Explore More questions!

Use of the tool box in calculation of the area

The calculation of the area demonstrated by a student

GSP's construction tools and capabilities allow us to investigate the polygons in any number of ways i different sides by dragging the animation button.

Students can drag on the point of the figures and gain real insight into how they operate on their own and in relation to others.

This dynamic experimentation is not something that can be achieved by using the traditional tools of construction or textbook whether the diagrams are static.
